We survived hurricanes Laura...and Sally, now Wilfred may be forming for an exciting weekend. I’m hurricane weary... During/after Laura we spent 8 very long days indoors, 100 degree heat with NO electricity, trees down on power lines, horrific wind, wind damage everywhere, food all spoiled, but we survived, exhausted and sick. Our cable is still out. The heat was the worst, and no aid from anywhere: no Red Cross, FEMA, United Way. We finally found drinking water at a police station in another city. This hurricane Laura was the worst one I’ve seen in 50 years... I hope Wilfred poops out...

MAD GIRL’S LOVE SONG
Sylvia Plath
"I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead;
I lift my lids and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
The stars go waltzing out in blue and red,
And arbitrary blackness gallops in:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
God topples from the sky, hell's fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan's men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
I fancied you'd return the way you said,
But I grow old and I forget your name.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
I should have loved a thunderbird instead;
At least when spring comes they roar back again.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)"
I should have loved a thunderbird instead;
At least when spring comes they roar back again.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)"

It was a bad one, Marion, and depending on the criteria.... the worst to ever hit the state.
So glad y'all made it through. Glad my daughter and family did, too!
That's one hell of a great poem. Poor Sylvia. Such a gifted young lady who switched off her life far, far too soon. Hope you're as well as can be. Fondest regards, Philip
Right, Kelly???! Glad we made it through... I appreciate you. xo
Hello, Philip! Yes, Sylvia threw in the towel way too soon. She had an amazing talent. Depression is a vicious beast, as is life itself at times...that philandering husband of hers ended up with two dead wives and one child murdered by her mother. I won’t even read his poetry. I’m doing okay, (just apprehensive about the coming hurricane) and I hope you are, too. Many thanks for stopping by! xo
Marion, did you ever see the movie "The Bell Jar"? As I recall (not from the movie), Plath killed herself by sticking her head in an oven, with her children in the next room.
I just thought I would drop by and be sure you hadn't washed away. Do you not allow nearly all of my comments? I visit often, but almost I write appears.
Snow, I have read “The Bell Jar” many times. I deleted several comments learning the new Blogger interface. Sorry. Hope you, Peggy and the kitties are safe from the Oregon fires. I won’t be discussing politics with you anymore. We both know each others’ stands very well and arguing only adds stress to my already painfully stressed psyche. I love you as an amazing, brilliant, cat-loving friend of many years even though we disagree politically. I’ll leave it there. You are always welcome here, my Mississippi friend from Oregon. xo
