It's ironic that she wrote about volcanoes and earthquakes since she never lived anywhere near either, and never even experienced either. Quakes are a bigger threat here than hurricanes are where you are, and Oregon is long overdue for a really big one (+9). I wouldn't have come here had I known this, but when I came here, no one knew this. When geologists starting finding evidence of previous major quakes and how many years apart they were, they checked Japanese records, which corroborated their own geological findings.

Tiny quakes--like Dickinson wrote about--happen here every few weeks or months. One damaged the Oregon state capitol, but many aren't even felt.Snowbrushhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00436087215476479042noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356162479428337180.post-70495620032958673282021-08-29T13:08:25.274-05:002021-08-29T13:08:25.274-05:00Evidence of volcanism is everywhere in Oregon, the...Evidence of volcanism is everywhere in Oregon, the whole state owning its existence to volcanoes. Some of them are still active, the nearest of which (the 10,358 foot South Sister) is visible from Eugene and has a bulge on the side facing town.

So, the hurricane has come ashore, but I've heard no reports of problems where you are.Snowbrushhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00436087215476479042noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356162479428337180.post-55686958650425558452021-05-29T07:34:44.333-05:002021-05-29T07:34:44.333-05:00I find volcanoes fascinating!
